Leadership Echo: Prodigal 4 - Farmer Digsley: The Weight of Work
There are echoes of Colossians 3:23 in the quiet faithfulness of steady work.
Farmer Digsley once joked that he was a “podcaster”, not the kind with microphones, but the kind who cast pods of food to pigs. He even claimed he was in the “happiness business”: if bacon makes people happy, and pigs make bacon, then raising pigs was noble work.
It sounds like farmer humor, but there’s wisdom underneath. While Sonny was chasing parties and applause, Digsley was tending pigs, running his market, and showing up every day. He didn’t shine on stage, but he carried the weight of work with quiet faithfulness.
“Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people.” Colossians 3:23
That’s leadership too. Good leaders don’t always draw attention. Sometimes they simply do their work with diligence, offering it as worship to God, not people. Their influence echoes from a quiet place: steady, consistent, and rooted in something greater than themselves.
Take time to reflect this week: Are you chasing applause, or are you carrying the weight of steady work with your heart fixed on God?
When have you seen quiet, consistent leadership shape a family, a team, or a community more deeply than flashy charisma?
