Echoes of Forgiveness

Even though the Bible describes David as a man after God’s own heart, he was deeply flawed. He broke many commands in his pursuit of Bathsheba. He lied. He cheated. He killed. But Uriah paid the price.

But God forgives. David came to understand the power of that forgiveness. He wrote, “How joyful is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” (Psalm 32:1)

David knew he was guilty. He didn’t just want to feel better, he wanted to be right with God. He longed for a clean conscience through mercy.

Grace doesn’t let sinners off easy. It costs more than we could ever pay. It cost the life of a man who did not deserve to die. Jesus died for the forgiveness of your sins. He died so that wounds as deep as the betrayal Uriah must have felt could actually be healed.

Jesus Christ triumphed over death and He now judges. The ones forgiven are made whole again. Wounds are healed. Reconciliation can happen. These are the echoes of forgiveness.
